Last week the owners of the Chicago Cubs fired their general manager, Jim Hendry. A decent man who brought the North Siders some success--but not the ultimate prize, which would have been a World Series championship. After the Cubs were swept in the 2008 Division Championship, Illinois' since-disgraced governor, Rod Blagojevich, ordered a commemorative renaming of Northwest Highway in Park Ridge--dubbing it Honorary Jim Hendry Way.
In typical Blago fashion, the hair-brained one didn't bother telling Park Ridge officials or even Henry about the designation.
In 2005 the Chicago White Sox won the city's first World Series since 1917--and no streets were renamed for the South Siders' GM, Ken Williams, who lives in west suburban Naperville. Blago is a Cubs fan.
Hendry lives in the northwest suburban Chicago suburb.
