In 1982 the federal government chose Yucca Mountain in Nevada as the nation's sole nuclear waste repository. Nearly 30 years later, nothing is being stored there--but radioactive waste is being secured in far less secure locations--69 of them.
KMOV-TV in St. Louis interviews Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL), who is travelling to Yucca Mountain today with other members of Congress, including some Democrats.
Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA), an environmental zealot, opposes the trip on cost grounds. But Shimkus tells the KMOV reporter, "When Henry Waxman attacks me, I take that as a badge of honor."
