From the GOP Budget Press Office: By the numbers, Dem leaders' failure to confront fiscal danger brings us to edge of shutdown

At mignight tonight Eastern Time, we could be facing a government shut down. The Democrats, who controlled both houses of Congress last year, had the time and effort to pass ObamaCare. But they didn't bother to pass a budget.

The Senate Republican Budget Press Office--Jeff Sessions of Alabama is the ranking member, issued the following statment about the Democrats' dereliction of duty.

By The Numbers: Dem Leaders' Failure To Confront Fiscal Danger Brings Us To Edge Of Shutdown

Experts warn that our uncontrolled spending threatens our whole economy. But as House Republicans have put forward bills to both fund the government responsibly in the short term and confront our fiscal challenges in the long term, Democrat leaders in Washington have not put forward a single serious proposal to cut spending. Instead, they have offered only excuses, objections, and resistance every step of the way.

Asked in an interview on FOX News last night why Democrats did not pass a budget when they controlled all of Congress, Rep. Charlie Rangel replied, "Well, we didn't get to it."

DEMOCRAT-LED SENATE

709 .................. Days since the Senate has passed a budget resolution

0 ...................... Budget resolution mark-ups scheduled by Senate Budget Committee Democrats

0 ...................... Budget resolutions proposed by the Democrat majority in the Senate

0 ...................... Bills passed by Senate Democrats to fund the government for rest of year

7.75 ................. Hours spent debating and voting on spending bills in the Democrat-led Senate

REPUBLICAN-LED HOUSE

48 .................... Days the House has been waiting for the Senate to pass a bill to fund the government for the year

862 .................. Billions of dollars that HR1, with $61 billion in cuts, would save over the next decade

6.2 ................... Trillions of dollars in spending cuts, relative to the president's plan, in the House budget

2 ...................... Veto threats from President Obama on bills that would fund the troops, fund the government, and prevent a government shutdown

66 …................ Hours spent debating and voting on spending bills in the Republican-led House (nearly 9 times more than the Senate)
