Videos: Estonian ice roads

Mrs. Marathon Pundit is in Latvia for a couple of weeks. She emailed me a few hours ago about a news story on local television about the nation's northern neighbor, Estonia. As I wrote earlier this month, the Baltic Sea ice cover is the largest it's been since 1987.

But the cold is good news for Estonian islanders--they can drive to the mainland over the Baltic ice.

Even in milder winters, the Estonian ice roads are common occurrences.

Here's is one more video. There is no dialogue, but it offers wondrous aerial views and glorious cinematography. The small trees you see on the roads are used to mark the safe patches of ice.
