Schilling visits Afghanistan

Rep. Bobby Schilling (R-IL), a House freshman from the Quad Cities area, just visited Afghanistan.

From a press release:

Washington, D.C.- Congressman Bobby Schilling, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, traveled to Afghanistan to meet with top U.S. Military Officials and local Afghan leaders.

"It was important to me to be fully informed of American military activity in Afghanistan."

Schilling was impressed with the morale and eagerness he saw in our troops and is confident they are on a path to victory.

"The recent deployment of additional troops to Afghanistan has done much to decrease the strength of insurgent groups, putting them at a significant disadvantage at the start of the very season in which American officials say they are likely to execute a major offensive and resume serious fighting to regain lost ground."

Schilling was happy to meet with troops stationed there and witness first-hand the important work they are doing rooting out terrorists and rebuilding the country.

"I am proud of the work being done by our troops in Afghanistan and I am inspired by their dedication to the mission," Schilling said. "Our troops have made great progress developing relationships with local leaders and killing or capturing terrorist cells. It is important that we do not let up in Afghanistan until the job is done."

Schilling was adamant that Americans continue to provide our defense forces with the equipment they need to protect our freedom:

"As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I fully support the efforts of our troops and will work to ensure those stationed in Afghanistan and around the world will continue to have access to the best possible tools and equipment to safely complete their mission. It is of the utmost importance that we fully invest in our military and intelligence operations in order to promote security both domestically and abroad."
