Marathon Pundit not running this year's Chicago Marathon

2010 Chicago Marathon--running with a stress fracture
It's with a heavy heart I write this entry. I've run and finished each Chicago Marathon since 1990. But when the starting gun goes off for this year's event, I won't be there.

On the morning of last year's race, I wrote, "I've had a sore calf for three months."

And I still have a sore calf.

Last week I had an MRI done on that calf and my right knee. Here's what was found: An old stress fracture, which probably occurred in July, and a radial tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus. That's behind the knee.

I've run very little since last October, and I won't be running for a while. Physical therapy--I've done some already--is the next step in my recovery. And it will be a long recovery, I fear.

But I will be back.

But if I'm not, I can still be the Marathon Pundit without running marathons.

If the city of Chicago had any heart, soul, or intelligence at all, they would hold up this year's marathon until you were able to compete.

Do they not realize that you ARE Marathon Pundit?

If you aren't there, it just really is not going to count. Well, not to anyone that matters anyway.
