Legislator: Quinn to sign death penalty abolishment bill at noon

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is expected to sign legislation into law at noon that will abolish the death penalty in the state, according to the bill's primary sponsor, State Rep. Karen Yarbrough (D-Maywood). While a candidate last year, Gov. Quinn said he favored capital punishment.

And that's not all that occurred on the campaign trail last year: Quinn said he supported a much smaller income tax increase than the lame duck session approved--which he signed off on--in January. House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego) claims Quinn swapped tax hike votes in exchange for a promise that he would sign the death penalty abolishment bill.
