In hard-times Michigan, pay for college administrators and faculty soars

According to the 2010 census, Michigan was the only state to lose population. It has suffered from a high unemployment rate for several years--predating the 2008 recession.

But for administrators at Michigan's public universities, these are boom times. The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Michigan state colleges have increase spending for the ivory tower poobahs by an average of 30 percent, while enrollment and state funding for the public universities was static. Faculty salaries went up too--by 22 percent.

Gee, why are people leaving Michigan?
