Alexi's not-so excellent week

This week started poorly for Illinois' Democratic US Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias. Yesterday Illinois' senior senator, Dick Durbin, told Crain's Chicago Business that the his party won't match the $3.4 million the National Republican Senatorial Committee has pledged to his Republican opponent, Mark Kirk.

Chicago Magazine caught up with political prognosticator Stu Rothenberg, author of the Rothenberg Political Report, and he predicts a Kirk win.

"This cycle is bad for the Democrats and particularly bad for Illinois Democrats,” Rothenberg added, citing the ongoing Blagojevich trial, among other things. If the economic numbers in September and October are clunkers, then, he said, the Democrats are in big trouble."
On Monday Kirk received the endorsement of Caterpillar CEO Jim Owens. The construction and mining equipment giant is one of Illinois' largest private employers.

Today the Kirk campaign challenged Giannoulias to name five items where he would have voted against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV).

"From the stimulus to government health care, Alexi Giannoulias remains a cheerleader for increased spending and higher taxes," Kirk spokesperson Kirsten Kukowski said. "Alexi Giannoulias will vote lock and step with Harry Reid to raise taxes, increase government spending and stifle economic growth. Illinois families cannot afford the Giannoulias job-killing rubber stamp.”

I'd like to up the ante: Can Giannoulias name five items where he would have voted opposite of Illinois' other senator, Rod Blagojevich-appointee Roland Burris?
