African American-owned weekly endorses Mark Kirk

Although newspaper readership continues to decline, their endorsements do help candidates, particularly in races such as the tight Illinois US Senate race.

The City News, an African American owned weekly that has served Kankakee, Will County, and southern Cook County since 1972, endorsed Republican Mark Kirk over his Democratic rival, Alexi Giannoulias. Expect many more media endorsements for Kirk. Illinois is still suffering from the disastrous reign of Rod Blagojevich--why would we want a failed mob banker representing us in the Senate?

In states like Virginia and New Jersey Republican governors were elected last November and in Massachusetts where Republican Scott Brown won the special election to fill Ted Kennedy’s former seat, the people have summarily rejected the Democrats policies and governmental agendas.

But in Illinois, the majority of the Democratic leadership still point tired fingers at the former Bush Administration, yet those same Democratic leaders have no one to blame but themselves for their failed policies and candidates. Under their administration nearly 3 million Americans have lost their jobs since the stimulus passed, 6 million lost their jobs since Speaker Pelosi took office and Congress spent over $3.5 trillion just last year, raising the deficit to $1.4 trillion which means our national debt has gone up over 40%.

America can’t survive if this brand of leadership continues. It is for that reason that the City News is proud to endorse Mark Kirk for Senate representing Illinois, Kirk is running for President Barack Obama's former United States Senate seat. Mark Kirk is a fiscal conservative, a national security advocate and the kind of leader who will work for the best interests of the people of Illinois.

Kirk is opposed to tax increases and government takeovers of private businesses and under his leadership political corruption in Illinois will be halted in its tracks.
