The Chicago White Sox, President Obama's favorite baseball team, just won the BP Crosstown Cup. This is the debut year of the trophy, which goes to the winner of the annual six game White Sox-Cubs home-and-home series.
A solo home run by South Side slugger Paul Konerko broke an eighth inning 2-2 tie. The final score was 3-2. It was the 11th straight win for the Sox, their longest winning streak since 1961. The series concludes tomorrow afternoon, but the White Sox have clinched the Cup--they've won four games.
Today is Day 67 of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, among the fluffy cermonies Obama has participated in since the blowout was the White House reception of the 2009 World Series Champion New York Yankees. Eight days ago the president attended the White Sox-Nationals game in Washington.
I don't expect Obama to invite his team to DC to show off the BP Cup.
UPDATE 11:45pm CDT: The Cup gets hoisted.
