Unemployment rate up to 9.9 percent

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its April jobs figures, and there is some good news. The economy added 290,000 jobs, but 60,000 of them are temporary Census positions. But because some discouraged workers reentered the job market, the unemployment rate ticked up two-tenths of a percentage point, it's now at 9.9 percent.

Remember the rush up to pass the $862 billion stimulus bill? The Democrats said the unemployment rate would not exceed 8 percent. In Obama's first year in office, the nation shed 4.1 million jobs. There's a lot of catching up to do.

Meanwhile, the Democrats keep pursuing job-killing policies such as the so-called Employee Free Choice Act and Cap and Trade.
