I'm only vaguely familiar with the Committee for Truth in Politics, a conservative group which attacks Democrats, including Illinois US Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias.
It produced an ad that someone, well, myself for instance, could have made more effective. But the Giannoulias campaign, as Big Government reports, has released its legal attack dogs on some television stations, asking them not to run this ad:
Giannoulias' lawyers are right, Broadway Bank has not asked for a bailout--it can't because it failed, and that failure cost taxpayers $394 million.
Not only should that be in the ad, but so should Bright Start debacle. People inside the Beltway overlook the college savings fund managed by Giannoulias that $70 million--almost half of its value. But that didn't stop Alexi from spending $26,000 in Bright Start for an SUV to promote the program.
C'mon Committee for Truth in Politics, you can do better. How does this sound: Stop Alexi before he squanders even more taxpayer money. (Cue ominous music.)
As for the overreaction by Giannoulias' attorneys, it could backfire. People will seek out the ad the Chicago Democrat doesn't want you to see.
