I usually don't write about violent crime, but because yesterday 21 people were shot in Chicago--in separate incidents--I feel I have to say something.
Police superintendent Jody Weis says about half of them were gang-related. One of the victims is a woman who is eight months pregnant. There is some good news, so far only one of the victims has died.
Any day now the US Supreme Court is expected to strike down Chicago's nearly thirty year-old handgun ban. Clearly it hasn't worked.
NBC's coverage of yesterday's Blackhawks victory over the Philadelphia Flyers included remotes from the Loop and the lakefront--showing America what a beautiful city Chicago is.
But there is a very ugly part of the city by the lake.
UPDATE 8:15pm CDT: One more shooting from yesterday has been reported, bringing the total to 22 shot.
