The Rev. Phelps, whose "church" consists mostly of his extended family, is known for picketing the funerals of soldiers killed in action, because of America's toleration of homosexuality.
Nate Phelps said people should feel sympathy for the church members, "at least for the young children stuck in that situation."
On his website, the younger Phelps describes a horrible childhood, with his mentally and physically abusive pill-popping father demanding his 13 children sell candy to raise money for the church, forcing kids as young as seven to run a marathon in adverse conditions, misogyny, and of course, participating in those hateful protests.
Nate Phelps lost his faith, and if Fred is ever asked about it, I'm sure he'd blame everyone else but himself.
No one from the church protested the speech. Nate predicts that Westboro will eventually die off.
