Gov. Quinn's phony Super 8 stunt

In an effort to bolster his frugality credentials, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn likes to display his Super 8 membership card at press conferences. The Daily Herald asked for a copy of that card, the governor's office didn't oblige them, but the Herald discovered that the card is from a Super 8 program that was discontinued five years ago.

The paper asked Quinn in person, who was, to use Al Gore's favorite phrase, "snippy."

"It belongs to me," the Chicago Democrat said. "Why would I give it to you? It doesn't belong to you."

But when Quinn waves that card in his capacity as governor, that's changes matters.
