Bayh says bye to the Senate

In what can only be termed a major disappointment to the Democratic Party, Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana says he will retire at the end of his term next year.

Although I never fell for it, Bayh was someone the Dems pointed to when confronted with the charge that their party is dominated by the extreme Left.

Former Hoosier Senator Dan Coats, a Republican, had already declared his intention to run. Lack of money isn't among Bayh's problems--his campaign fund, according to The Hill, is stuffed with $13 million.

Bayh leaves state Democrats in a very tough spot. The deadline to turn in petitions for the primary is tomorrow, which could mean a November candidate will have to be appointed by the state central committee.

Do you know who else is disappointed about Bayh's retirement?

Headline writers.

Bayh for now.

The tide continues to turn in a big way for the Republicans.

Bayh pointed to the partisan divide in congress as his reason for leaving. Considering who's been in charge the last 3 years, it's an indictment of his own parties inability to work with others.
