From the Jim Ryan campaign:
Let Me Be Clear:
Taxes Would be a Poison Pill for Our Economy
While some candidates try to distort my position on taxes — I made my intentions perfectly clear in last week's gubernatorial debate: I won't raise taxes, because it would be disastrous for our economy.
We have a major spending problem in this state — a problem that would not have occurred had I been elected in 2002. At that time, I proposed a common sense Constitutional amendment that would have capped Illinois government spending.
According to the non-partisan Illinois Policy Institute, my proposed spending cap would have saved the taxpayers $13 billion — more than our current budget deficit.
I invite you to watch the following clip from the debate in which I explain my proposed amendment, and make my opposition to tax hikes perfectly clear:
Thank you for your time and interest. With your support, we will win on February 2 — and begin the real battle to end the Quinn/Blagojevich era that has brought nothing but economic and ethical crisis to our state.
Sincerely,
Jim Ryan
