Commissioners override veto: Half of Cook Cty corruption tax gone

The 5 million residents of Cook County are big winners this afternoon. Half of the hated one percent "corruption tax" was eliminated this afternoon when Cook County commissioners voted to override a veto by vacuous political hack Todd Stroger, who is president of the county board.

State law was recently changed that dropped the statue that required an 80 percent super majority to override a veto, making today's victory possible.

But the battle is not over.

Stoger might challenge the new state law, and plunged into fear mongering today when he said "some people will die needlessly" if the tax is lowered. Cook County operates three hospitals.

The other half of the corruption tax needs to go too.

For now, I believe that county residents like myself will still end up paying the nation's highest sales tax, 9.5 percent. Chicagoans will pay more, 9.75 percent.
