Burris a bur on the side of the Democrats

Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has apparently convinced Joe Lieberman (I-CT) to vote for the Senate ObamaCare bill--its latest incarnation lacks the public option. But the Reid bill will put the federal government in the health insurance business, which eventually will return health care into a utility type existence. Which means it will be a government takeover of one-sixth of the US economy.

But that's not good enough for Sen. Roland Burris (D-Blagojevich), who has vowed not to vote for any health reform bill that lacks the public option.

The New York Times reports on Illinois' embarrassment of a senator:

Mr. Burris, however, did calibrate his language: "I am committed to voting for a bill that achieves the goals of a public option: competition, cost savings and accountability," he said. "I will not be able to vote for lesser legislation that ignores those fundamentals.

Shortly before his removal from office by the Illinois state Senate, Rod Blagojevich compared his predicament to the sufferings of Gandhi. So it's fitting for to Burris pull the Gandhi card.

With a dramatic flourish, Mr. Burris said: "As Mohandas Gandhi once famously said, 'All compromise is based on give and take, but there can be no give and take on fundamentals. Any compromise on mere fundamentals is a surrender.'"

Look for Reid or President Obama to buy Burris off. He's venal.
