Chicago's south suburbs: Stimulus jobs? What stimulus jobs?

The Southtown Star covers the area where I grew up, Chicago's southern suburbs. The paper took a look at the effect of Barack Obama's economic stimulus boondoggle and found that (surprise!) it has created few new jobs.

Of the roughly $6 million doled out so far to 10 public and private agencies in the Southland, just 16 jobs have been created, with three more coming.

Another $45.2 million (of $6 billion so far earmarked for Illinois) awarded to 24 Southland school districts won't yet add any more paychecks.

Contrary to the purpose of the stimulus package - to, well, stimulate employment and save jobs - and though the Obama administration has claimed the money has so far saved or created 650,000 jobs nationwide, the millions coming to Southland agencies have paid for almost anything but jobs, according to the federal Web site Recovery.gov
