As you all probably know by now, Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina did not disappear for six days so he could hike on the Appalachian Trail.
He flew to Argentina so he could have a fling with a woman named Maria. The State has excerpts of some e-mails the lovebirds exchanged.
The Palmetto Scoop, South Carolina's best blog, has a round-up of reaction from state politicians, most of them like Sanford are Republican--South Carolina is a GOP stronghold.
This is the most bizarre political freak show since Rod Blagojevich's arrest in December. To be fair to Sanford, by all accounts he was an able governor. Blago on the other hand spent little time in Springfield or in Chicago's State of Illinois building, preferring to work from home or his little office on the city's Northwest Side.
So if the Chicago Democrat went missing for six days while he was governor, only his family and his campaign financing apparatus would have notice.
And Blago was one of the worst governors in Illinois history.
