Cook County government, thanks to President Todd Stroger and four other Democrats, will continue to remain an inefficient cesspool of graft. The hated corruption tax, which gives Chicagoans and suburban Cook residents the nation's highest sales tax, will remain in place.
If you're planning to visit Chicago, be prepared to pay 10.25 percent on most purchases. In the Cook 'burbs, it's "just" 10 percent.
An archaic law that dates back to when most of suburban Cook was rural stipulates that an eighty percent majority is needed to override a board president's veto. Fourteen "yea" votes were needed for an override, anti-corruption tax forces could only round up only eleven.
The eighty-percent law needs to be tossed out, along Stroger, and every commissioner who voted at one time or another for the despised corruption tax.
There's an election next year. Throw the bums out.
At one time "Toddler" said he favored a phased out version of the tax. In a 10-7 vote, commissioners voted for that, but now Stroger says he'll veto the rollback.
Speaking of taxes, Stroger owes over $10,000 in back taxes to the IRS. They've filed a lien on his house.
Absolutely disgusting.
