Native Americans would sometimes tie a sapling to a nearby branch to mark the direction of a trail. According to Morton Grove: 100 Years, this bent tree, pictured yesterday, is a survivor from the pre-European settlement era. The tree can be found near the corner of Beckwith Road and Nashville Avenue.
