Logrolling two bad bills

Two groups that don't always get along--unions and environmentalists--seem to be assisting each other in getting their favorite bills passed. For the greenies, it's cap-and-trade, which supporters are calling a system to limit greenhouse gas emissions, but in reality is an energy tax. For unions, their pet legislative project is the so-called Employee Free Choice Act, better known as card check.

"You help my bill become law, I'll do the same for you" is an old legislative practice, nicknamed logrolling.

Politico puts wedding gowns and tuxedos on this shotgun marriage.

And like many shotgun marriages, the enviro-union alliance is an act of desparation.
That's because right now card check and the energy tax don't have the votes to make it out of the Senate.

Let's hope it stays that way and they both roll right out of the Senate.
