The unions were pretty cocky after Barack Obama, a supporter of the badly misnamed Employee Free Choice Act, won in November. On top of that, the Democrats expanded their majorities in Congress--a lot, but not quite enough. Even if Minnesota's Al Franken (ugh!) gets seated, that leaves the Dems one short of 60 votes--the number needed to win a cloture vote. Which means the Democrats need a Republican defection to pass EFCA, better known as "card check." But Arlen Specter (R-PA), who supported card check in 2007, won't this time. Now some Dems are bailing: Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) says she won't vote for EFCA "in its current form." Diane Feinstein (D-CA) and Mark Pryor (D-AR) are shaky on card check.
But joining Lincoln in the "No" category is newly appointed Colorado Democrat Michael Bennett.
I think it's safe to say that card check, in its current form, is dead.

Unions will never give up trying to enslave Americans. Democrats will never give up the automatic donations from their slaveholders.
