Frank Melton suing to get back on mayoral ballot

America's Worst Mayor, so says Reason Magazine, is Jackson, Mississippi's Frank Melton.

On Tuesday, Democratic Municipal Executive Committee of Mississippi's capital city removed Melton from the May 5 primary ballot. The following week Melton's retrial will begin.

Melton and a former bodyguard are accused of violating the civil rights of a duplex resident whose home was raided--there was no warrant--by a mob made up of Jackson police officers and youths--some with criminal records.

The mayor said he thought the home was a crack house.

The first trial ended with a hung jury.

Melton filed suit yesterday to get his name back on the ballot.
