Ill. GOP on Lt. Gov. Quinn's creation of an ethics panel

An ethics panel in Illinois? Not a bad idea. A bit late, however, as Illinois Republican Party chairman explains in a press release:

Pat Quinn's attempts to re-write history and cultivate a newfound reformer image are laughable.

"In 2006 Pat Quinn called Rod Blagojevich honest in the face of myriad federal investigations and was more than happy to be a direct beneficiary of Blagojevich's tainted campaign funds.

"If Pat Quinn was serious about reforming Illinois, he would have done it prior to being Rod Blagojevich's running mate in 2006 and before the Governor's arrest 27 days ago."

It's never too late to make the right decision. I'll give Quinn that much.

Having said that, I highly doubt anything will come of it.

As Nancy Pelosi has demonstrated, Democrats and ethics reform just don't go together.

This is Quinn's opportunity to be a leader and a statesman. Let's see if he's got what it takes or if he's just another Illinois politician. I hope for everyone's sake he's different.
