Shinseski stated early on that more troops would be needed to keep Iraq pacified after the toppling of Saddam Hussein's regime. Which is one of the reasons why Obama chose the onetime Army chief of staff for his cabinet.
Does that mean that Obama supports the surge now?
Tammy Duckworth, a former Illinois Democratic congressional candidate who now head's the state's Department of Veterans Affairs was considered a likely choice by Obama. That leaves her in the running, unless the choice has already been made--scroll down two posts--for being named Obama's replacement in the US Senate.
She'd be a good pick for the Dems, which is why our brain-addled governor, Rod Blagojevich, won't choose her.
