Army-Navy, the Enforcer, and the "Running of the Game Balls"

Today the annual Army-Navy football game was held in Philadelphia. And wait, I'm going to make another rare running post.

I saw part of the game on television, and it was a real snoozer, Navy topped Army for the ninth time in ten games, winning 34-0.

Both sides donned new uniforms for the game. The men from West Point can at least soothe their wounds knowing that they wore the best duds, Army's helmets and pants were graced with a camouflage design, the design is called "The Enforcer." Navy's uniforms were pretty cool, too.

Meanwhile, both service academies continued a tradition started in 1975, the Running of the Game Balls. Cadets and Midshipmen ran along the sides of vans carrying one of the game balls. Army's route was a secret, but Navy runners trekked 137 miles from Annapolis to Philadelphia.

Army-Navy: A great tradition, a great rivalry. Too bad the game didn't match the event. Maybe next year.
