Yesterday afternoon, Mark Halperin, who heads Time Magazine's The Page blog, caught up with Robert Gibbs, a senior Barack Obama campaign spokesman, and got the Johnny Cash fan (he's got one redeeming quality) to admit the the Illinois senator continued to associate with unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers after he learned of his notorious background.
(Personally, my hunch--remember Obama and I are the same age--is that Obama learned about Ayers and the Weather Underground that same time I did--during his high school years.)
Here is the damning dialogue:
Halperin: "Is it fair to say that (Obama) continued to associate with [Bill Ayers] professionally, and personally on a casual basis, even after he learned (of Obama's terrorist past?)"
Gibbs: "He continued to serve on a charitable board and an educational grant board with money supplied by Walter Annenberg, a Republican who was an ambassador under Richard Nixon. Yes."
Halperin: "But with the knowledge of Ayers' past?"
Gibbs: "Yes."
As for the Annenberg cash being "Republican" dough, well, leftists have a long history of taking over charitable boards, the most famous example is the Ford Foundation.
