The smart money earlier today had Obama winning North Carolina, and Hillary Rodham Clinton taking Indiana. However, if either candidate won both states it would be a major momentum builder. Obama at this hour has a fourteen percentage vote lead in North Carolina and the Illinois senator has been declared the winner in that race. Hillary Clinton is clinging to a four percentage vote lead in Indiana--she will probably win that state, but she was expected to do better. Advantage Obama.
I got to catch coverage of Hillary's de facto victory speech in Indianapolis. Her verbiage was dripping with patriotic references. Obviously she's trying to sneak in some jabs at Obama, who numerous reasons is having his patriotism questioned by many voters.
Next up for Obama and Clinton is the West Virginia Primary on May 12, with the Kentucky Primary on May 20. Lot of those "bitter" small town folks in those states, but very patriotic ones. Clinton should win those.
UPDATE 11:25 PM CDT: Fox News is reporting that Lake County, where Gary (mostly African American) is located, is starting, finally, to release its ballot count. Obama is now just two precentage votes behind Clinton, and in the overall vote trails HRC by only 20,000 votes.
UPDATE May 7 12:25 AM CDT: With a lead of just 15,000 votes, Fox News is calling Indiana for Hillary Clinton. She was expected to do a lot better in the Hoosier State.
