Another Obama gaffe

Here he goes again...

Democrat Barack Obama admitted on Tuesday he was wrong to say his uncle helped liberate the Nazis' Auschwitz concentration camp after Republicans said Soviet troops freed the camp.

Obama's campaign said the candidate meant to say that his great-uncle, Charlie Payne, had helped liberate a part of the Buchenwald camp, not Auschwitz.

"Yesterday he mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald in telling of his personal experience of a soldier in his family who served heroically," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

The former death camp of Auschwitz is in Poland, and as since Obama is someone who grew up during the Cold War, he should know that the Soviets controlled eastern Europe through the puppets state they set up after the end of World War II.

The Obama campaign, in not so many words, is calling the mistaken Auschwitz reference was a slip of the tongue. Perhaps. But is Obama showing some desperation? He knows he's in trouble with the Jewish vote. Buchenwald was a horrible place, but Auschwitz is synonymous with the Holocaust for many people.

Gaffe-man!

This is highly entertaining.

Honestly, in and of itself, this issue straddles the line of "non-issue" ..., but string enough of these together and most people will consider it a trend.

And, that trend is the same that you will see in your standard issue Chicago politician.

Hopechange, baby!

What was most disturbing was not what he said, but how he said it:

"I had a ... uncle ... "

Call me Mr. Nit-Pick, but shouldn't the article preceding a noun beginning with a vowel be "an"?

I'm less concerned with the Messiah's slipping a bit on the difference between "uncle" and "great-uncle" than I am on how careless he is with grammar.
