Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates

Business took me to far northwestern Cook County today. That's the North Branch of Poplar Creek, which I took in the Barrington Road Pond Forest Preserve.

This ties into one of my Wednesday posts--some residents of this part of Cook want to secede and form Illinois' 103rd county, which would be named for Abraham Lincoln.

Last week the woeful legislative body known as the Cook County Board of Commissioners more than doubled its share of the sales tax--Chicago will soon have the highest sales tax in the nation, and the Cook suburbs will be close behind. Border suburbs are expecting a cash drain.

But the scenery sure is pretty.

Ah. Economic development for the collar counties.

But the ratio will lesson on April 1st when our sales tax does up 1/2 cent per $1, thanks to Cook County Democrats and the honchos in DuPage County.
