The audacity of Reverend Wright and Obama--NSFW

Barack Obama is going to have trouble explaining away these comments by his spiritual adviser and recently retired pastor, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Be careful if you're playing the YouTube, Wright uses the "N" word.

The video is not safe for work!

In the video, among the less volatile things Wright said about Obama, "He ain't white, he ain't rich, he ain't priviliged."

Well Obama, and his wife Michelle, another member of Wright's Trinity United Church of Christ, certain are rich. Obama graduated from the elite Punahou prep school in Hawaii, and has two Ivy League diplomas to his name, as does Michelle. Sounds privileged to me. Wright was the minister for Michelle and Barack's wedding.

Here's what Obama had to say about Wright last year. Free Chicago Tribune registration may me required for the link.

What I value most about Pastor Wright is not his day-to-day political advice. He's much more of a sounding board for me to make sure that I am speaking as truthfully about what I believe as possible and that I'm not losing myself in some of the hype and hoopla and stress that's involved in national politics.
Well thank God Obama's not asking Wright for political advice, which probably means he won't be asking him (I hope) for assistance on policy decisions if he becomes president.

ABC News has more:

Sen. Barack Obama's pastor says blacks should not sing "God Bless America" but "God damn America."

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's south side, has a long history of what even Obama's campaign aides concede is "inflammatory rhetoric," including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."

In a campaign appearance earlier this month, Sen. Obama said, "I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial." He said Rev. Wright "is like an old uncle who says things I don't always agree with," telling a Jewish group that everyone has someone like that in their family.

If Obama really doesn't think his church is controversial, then he has some serious problems with judgement that goes beyond his still completely unexplained ties to early supporters Antoin "Tony" Rezko and Bill Ayers.

The title of Obama's best-selling book, Audacity of Hope, comes from a sermon by the Reverend Wright.

As is his wont, Obama had spokespersons answer questions about Wright, and they said Obama "repudiated" the statements. Big deal. Obama can't wait to be president so he can talk to nutjobs like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran. But he won't directly answer queries about Rezko, Wright, and Ayers.

Audacious!

Close you eyes and listen carefully. You will hear the words of the black KKK leader in action. Not one pennys worth of difference in Wright's congregration and David Duke's Klan meetings.

It didn't really sound very controversial. It looks like you are just trying to get some clicks on your blog. Who cares what some pastor says. Do you have a tape of every sermon of every church that Clinton has ever been to? This is crap.

Thanks, Firefighter.

As for the next commenter

It looks like you are just trying to get some clicks

It worked in your case.

It didn't really sound very controversial.

Ward Churchill, is that you?

Racism is racism. Whether it comes from blacks toward whites or whites toward blacks or one race toward any other race. And Reverend Wright is a major racist. Period!

Furthermore, what Reverend Wright had to say was a far cry over and above what Geraldine Ferraro said! It's ridiculous to even compare the two! What she said was true and not the least bit racist! The fact of the matter is that if Hillary Clinton were up against a white democratic male opponent, the race would not be near as heated or as formidable as it has been this year. The very fact that Obama is black has made the race what it is. There is absolutely NO denying that. To do so is the epitomy of absolute ignorance. But judging by the last 8 years, the is no shortage of ignorance in this country!

I, for one, do not want a black president with a muslim name to be my next president. Is no one else bothered by that? We are at war with muslim countries and we have a distint possibility of having a president with a muslim upbringing and a muslim name?

Terribly frightening.

Terribly Frightening

I have avoided wading into this battle - but my oh my that came across as an incredibly racist thing to say.

Do you know even the first thing about Muslim traditions and beliefs... not radical
Islamic beliefs - and what you learn on Fox, but real Muslim beliefs???
