Libby Quaid of Associated Press has an article all over the internet with the headline, Analysis: Kerik could tarnish Giuliani.
Wishful thinking on her part, or that of her headline writer.
Bernard Kerik rose from obscurity to positions of power in Mayor Rudy Giuliani's administration He was the New York City Police Commissioner when the 9/11 attacks took place.
Giuliani recommended Kerik to head the Homeland Security Department, and it was downhill from there for Kerik, as a series of disclosures began a process that led to today's federal indictment on various fraud and corruption charges.
It's a hit for Rudy, but the Kerik case probably won't even come to trial until after the 2008 general election--and Rudy may not end up being the Republican nominee for president. It's a story for a few days, and will be quickly forgotten by 95% of the electorate.
But AP thinks differently.
