A lot happened afterwards.
From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:
Woolton Parish -- ring a bell?
How about Ivan Vaughan?
Funny how history-shaping events can turn on the most obscure of players -- and places.
Fifty years ago today, Vaughan, then a teenager in Liverpool, England, suggested to his good pal, Paul McCartney, that they check out the entertainment at a "Garden Fete" at Woolton Parish's St. Peter's Church Field.
And when McCartney stood across that patch of churchyard grass on an improbably sunny Saturday -- July 6, 1957 -- his gaze locked onto a stranger, John Lennon, who was standing atop a wagon-float, leading his garage combo, the Quarrymen, through a bunch of instantly forgettable covers.
