D-Day 2007: The cicadas are here
Much of the Chicago area has been eagerly awaiting--or dreading--the arrival of the cicadas after a seventeen year absence.
They emerged a few days ago in the southern suburbs, but today a whole bunch climbed out of the dirt in Morton Grove. Most of the cicadas, at least here, are still underground.
Cicadas are very cooperative photographic subjects, you can walk right up to them and take a picture, as I did with this pair in nearby Linne Woods three hours ago. Unfortunately for the insects, after seventeen years of living underground, they have no fear of predators; the local robins are swooping down on and enjoying a cicada version of the Adkins Diet.
Others who are cicada blogging include Windypundit, Backyard Conservative, The Tanooki, and Everyone Needs Therapy.
I certainly do, but more on that in my next post.
