The trial of former Hollinger CEO Conrad Black has is winding down--closing arguments will begin this morning in Chicago. Hollinger was once the publisher of the Chicago Sun-Times, Canada's National Post, the Jerusalem Post, London's Telegraph, and most importantly, my hometown paper, the Morton Grove Champion.
Black's trial, as I've noted in earlier posts, is getting a lot of media attention in his native Canada, as well as his adopted country of Great Britain--he accepted a peerage there a few years ago.
It's a minor story here, although it's the lead article this morning on the CBS 2 Chicago web site.
Black is accused of a number of fraud charges--allegedly he swindled Hollinger shareholders out of $60 million.
However, like the trial of ex-Tyco CEO Dennis Kozlowski, much attention has been focused on a birthday party Black threw for his wife, an expensive bash prosecutors say was paid for out of corporate funds.
