Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Col) announced on Iowa radio this morning that he is officially entering the 2008 presidential race.
He admits he's in the second tier of Republican candidates. Those who know of Tancredo are aware of him because of his hawkish stance on immigration controls. And that's his problem--at this point in the race, he's viewed as a single issue candidate.
As for moving up to the top-tier, it's a tough hill for him to climb. Yes, it's very early, but Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan) thought because of his support, such as it is, among social conservatives, he could end up in the top drawer. Brownback and Tancredo might still make the leap, but I wouldn't bet on it.
