Theme park expert to assist Navy recruit training at Great Lakes

Join the Navy and see the world was a recruitment slogan for the United States Navy many years ago.

But the first port-of-call for Navy recruits before they become sailors is Great Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago, Illinois. The base closings that began in the last decade left Great Lakes as the only Navy training location.

The Chicago Tribune, free registration required, has a fascinating article about Navy using the talents of Robert Cortelyou, who designed the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland, among others.

Training exercises at Great Lakes, thank to Cortelyou, are going to get much more realistic.
