While blogging, typically I listen to my customized Yahoo! LAUNCHcast radio station.
The service has dozens of packaged stations: Hard Rock, Comedy, Today's Big Hits, Love Songs, Latin Jazz, Doo Wop are just a few of the choices.
And there is a new one: Gay Club Mix.
My journalistic curiosity was piqued: What is "gay music."
Well, I listed for about twenty minutes, the answer to that question is, I guess, gay music is dance-techno spiced with 1970s disco. Ironically, it isn't too different than the stuff my Latvian-born wife listens to, music I call "chunka-chunka-chunka," in reference to the beat that dominates these tunes.
Here is the play list of those twenty minutes listening to Gay Club Mix:
Abba: Dancing Queen
The Chemical Brothers: Hey Boy Hey Girl
Kylie Minoque: Can't Get You Out Of My Mind
Armand Van Helden: My My My
Amber: The Need To Be Naked
Cheryl Lynn: Got To Be Real
Then I switched to my customized station, and the decidedly non-gay Johnny Cash came on, with the magnificently entertaining title track from his last album blaring through my speakers.
