(Photo) Red bud trees blooming

On Sunday I was visited Palos Park Woods, a Cook County Forest Preserve west of my hometown of Palos Heights, Illinois. It was there encountered a grove of eastern red bud trees in their purple-blossom glory.

Chicago's southern suburbs are at the northern edge of the range of the eastern red bud.

The flowers of the red bud--and its seeds--are edible.

Yes, there I am in the center of it all.
