While running through Morton Grove's Miami Woods this afternoon, I came across a prescribed burn in progress. To preserve native plants and to drive out invasive species--such as European Buckthorn--volunteers occasionally use fire to exterminate the alien weeds and trees.
There were several of these "Prescribed Burn Ahead" signs on the running path.
It wasn't that much of a burden to pass through the smoke.
That depends on your timing, of course.
A liquid accellerant ignited the flames.
The wind was low today--it was good burning weather.
