Chicago suburb wants to ban the phone book

Up in Lake County, Illinois, Highland Park thinks it can save the world by banning the phone book and the Yellow Pages. This is a monumentally stupid idea because for starters, the Yellow Pages--which usually include the white pages--are profit driven. But environmentalists seem to care little about a balance sheet containing good news, as we've learned in the attacks by greenies against fossil fuels.

Profits of course means jobs.

Why else is this a stupid idea? People can opt-out of receiving the Yellow Pages and of course, when a new edition arrives, the old book can be recycled.

Current phone books are made mostly from recycled material.

And finally, yes, there is an internet option to find telephone numbers and information about businesses, including YP.com. Many people--not all of them seniors--still prefer to page through printed material.

The Highland Park City Council is expected to vote on this meddlesome nonsense on December 12. You have to dig deep--into a zip file--to find this information.

San Francisco, the capital of the Nanny State, has already effectively banned the Yellow Pages.
