Pelosi participates in CWA union activist call

Napa Valley
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi participated in last night's Communications of America union activist call. It was an odd choice. The wealthy Pelosi and her husband are part owners of Napa Valley Auberge Du Soleil Resort, an exclusive property that is non-union, as is the restaurant chain Piatti, which the couple also partially owns. Yet during the call, the San Francisco liberal declared, "We will prevail because we must, our democracy depends on a strong middle class which benefits from all the organizing you are doing." (See previous sentence.)

Pelosi stressed the importance of "jobs, jobs, jobs jobs," which also is odd, because President Obama is America's first anti-business president. The president's 50th birthday was noted--Pelosi asserted "The president wouldn't be in the White House" without the labor movement.

The national debt has soared 37 percent since Obama took office, which of course was not mentioned during the call. But Pelosi addressed that issue: "They're using the deficit as an excuse to destroy the public's faith in our country," she said.

UPDATE 11:10pm: Here's the audio of the call.
