Ice fishing on Juglas Lake in Latvia; monument to a treaty ending a war

When Mrs. Marathon Pundit was in Latvia in late March, the ice on Riga's Juglas Lake--Juglas Ezers in Latvian--was strong enough to support these ice fishermen.

Not far from this spot is a monument marking where a treaty was signed in 1919 ending a war between the Baltische Landeswehr, a German force led Czarist German nobility and former soldiers from the Kaiser's army, and allied Latvian and Estonian troops. The chaos after the end of World War I led to a bizarre three-way war between the Baltic peoples, Bolsheviks, and the Germans.
