Alexi Giannoulias, the failed mob banker, is pretty good at squandering other people's money--the bailout of his family-owned Broadway Bank cost taxpayers $394 million. But the Chicago Democrat was unable to raise much cash for his US Senate race, bringing in only a little more than $900,000 in the second quarter. His GOP opponent, Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park), did much better during the same time period, raising $2.3 million.
Obviously disappointed in his fundraising prowess, Giannoulias traveled to Canada last weekend with other Democratic Senate candidates last weekend to collect loot from some notorious job-killers, American trial lawyers.
Illinois' unemployment rate is 10.8 percent.
