Acting like Illinois just landed a massive new factory, Sen. Dick Durbin, speaking of the residents of northwestern Illinois about Gitmo North, said "The support for this prison in overwhelming and bipartisan."
I'm willing to concede that a majority of the residents of tiny Thomson, and Carroll County, support Gitmo North.
But a recent Rasmussen poll finds that a majority of Illinoisans oppose the transfer of al Qaeda terrorists to Thomson. And Rep. Don Manzullo (R-Egan), whose district includes Thomson, has "serious reservations" about it. State Senator Tim Bivins (R-Dixon), a former county sheriff, stated "there are so many unanswered questions" about Gitmo North. Bivins' district includes part of Carroll County, but not Thomson.
Not overwhelming, not bipartisan.
