Niles Township high schools offering anti-Israel course

I live in District 219 and Little Marathon Pundit is a graduate of Niles West.

There are many Jewish students at the district's two high schools. The schools will have a new course offering, "Teaching Palestine."

From the Jewish News Syndicate:

The lesson, according to the course description obtained by JNS, “brings together critical educators who want to teach about Palestine and the Palestine liberation struggle.”'

Objectives include developing “a deeper understanding of the history and current political context of the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the Palestine liberation struggle,” examining and analyzing “existing curriculum on Palestine, the Palestinian liberation struggle and Israel.”]

Goals also include discussing “concrete strategies for how to respond to Zionist professional developments and curricula or when parents/staff/others object to anti-Zionist curriculum,” developing grade appropriate scope and sequence for teaching Palestine” and making “curriculum connections between Palestine and issues affecting our students, such as: state/police violence, the struggle for racial justice in the U.S., settler colonialism in Palestine and the U.S., access to education for historically marginalized youth.”

Information from organizations such as Jewish Voice for Peace, a prominent anti-Israel group nationwide, is used in the course.

Ald. Ed Burke ((14th), the longtime chairman of the Chicago City County Finance Committee, was first elected alderman 50 years ago. He succeeded his father.

Chicago Alderman Ed. Burke and his top political aide have been named as defendants in a federal bribery case against Lake Forest developer Charles Cui.

Prosecutors say Cui used Burke's law firm for property tax appeal work as he tried to secure a sign permit for a Northwest Side redevelopment.

In January, Burke was charged with one count of attempted extortion for allegedly trying to force a fast food restaurant to use his law firm in exchange for a building permit.. The alderman has maintained his innocence.

In February his moronic constituents reelected Burke.

Two men charged in killing of Chicago mother who died while protecting her baby

This story is absolutely tragic. The only good news is that two men have been arrested as suspects in the killing of this West Side mother.

Two men were charged Thursday with the murder of Brittany Hill, the 24-year-old mother who was killed Tuesday in Austin while holding and protecting her 1-year-old daughter.

Urbana residents Michael Washington, 39, and Eric Adams, 23, were both charged with one felony count of first-degree murder, Chicago police said.

Hill was talking with two acquaintances outside a car just before 9 a.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of North Mason Avenue while holding her daughter, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Washington and Adams allegedly drove up in a silver Chevy Impala, got out of the car and shot Hill in the upper body, authorities said. During the incident, Hill tried to hide behind other parked vehicles while shielding the baby.

Patriots: Vote against Illinois' income tax hike

I haven't written much about Illinois' proposed move from a flat rate income tax to one with progressive rates because the legislation's trip through the General Assembly. That's because Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) and his underlings fellow Democrats JB Pritzker (D-Chicago), the governor, and John Cullerton (D-Chicago), the president of the state Senate, had pre-ordained passage.

For the tax increase to take effect, 60 percent of Illinois voters have to vote on a constitutional amendment. I'm urging all remaining Land of Lincoln patriots--those of you who have not moved to Tennessee, Indiana, or Texas, to vote against it.

Yes, the Democrats are calling this a tax cut for most Illinoisans. Even if that is true, the Dems--who because of gerrymandering have supermajorities in both chambers of General Assembly--will, I predict, stick it to the middle class if the tax hike amendment passes.

You've been warned.

The income tax hike is in reality a bailout of Illinois' woefully under-funded pension plans. Who shorted the plans? Madigan, the chairman of the state Democratic Party who has been House speaker for 34 of the last 36 years. The Prairie State needs a different amendment--one that eliminates the pension guarantee.

Chicago Memorial Day weekend: At least 7 killed and 32 others wounded

Memorial Day is the traditional start of summer but sadly it's also when the shootings in Chicago increase.

Chicago has a new mayor, Lori Lightfoot, who promised "flooding the zone" with additional police officers. Still, at least seven people were killed and another 32 others were wounded. Heavy rain several times over the weekend, had it been dry, the carnage may have been worse.
